Campus Construction Update for Week of July 3

July 1, 2011

These are among the construction activities scheduled July 3-9 at the University of Wyoming.

The UW Facilities Planning Office reports the following activities scheduled for the week:

Berry Biodiversity Conservation Center Landscaping /Bureau of Mines Alley Improvements -- New landscaping, ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) walking paths, outdoor benches, lighting and a traffic gate are being installed by the alley between the Berry Center and the Bureau of Mines Building. Layout work will continue through the summer with completion scheduled for Aug. 31. Green roof planting began this week and will be completed by July 5. Concrete work in the alley may create some congestion and noise. The alley will remain open during construction.

Ivinson Building Abatement/Deconstruction -- The abatement contractor has put up fencing around the Ivinson Building. The two parking isles just south of the building on the west (18 spaces) are closed and fenced off. Abatement continues on the east side of the building.

ESCo Project (Energy Services Company) -- Long Energy Services Company auditors will wear identifying badges as they work in the Centennial Complex mechanical room on July 5. This will not affect building occupants.

State Fiscal Stabilization Fund Modernization, Renovation and Repairs (Scheduled completion, fall 2011) -- The project focuses on major maintenance items, ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) improvements and classroom improvements. Construction activities will generate dust and debris. Work continues in Agriculture, Animal Science, Arts & Sciences, Aven Nelson, Engineering, Geology, Pharmacy and Physical Science buildings and Hoyt Hall.

Energy Resources Center (1020 Lewis Street, scheduled to be completed in summer, 2012) -- The contractor is mobilizing to begin construction. Lewis Street will remain closed during construction. Parking will be limited in areas around construction including the drive along the west of the Engineering Building. The construction office is set up on site. Fencing will be reconfigured to secure the site and storage area.

Visual Arts Center (22nd Street and Willett Drive near the Centennial Complex, scheduled completion late fall, 2011) -- There will be frequent construction traffic for delivery of materials throughout the week, and foot and vehicular traffic will not be permitted across the site. Minor work is under way on walk repair along Willett. Concrete foundation wall work is nearing completion. Excavation and underground utility work including off site utility work is nearing completion. Watch for this work outside the contained construction area. Construction of interior wall framing and installation of mechanical/electrical systems is under way on the first and second floor east. Roof trim is ongoing on the east side and lower level roof on the south as weather allows.

War Memorial Stadium Parking Lot (Completion August 2011) -- The parking lot and 20th Street from the stadium to Grand Avenue will be closed until Aug. 15. The base is being prepared for asphalt, and the fencing and base will be reused for temporary parking in the Summit View area.

Summit View Apartment Deconstruction Phase II -- Rough grading for the four blocks east of 22nd Street has begun. Part of the six-block fencing has been removed along Crane and Arrowhead, but still remains along 22nd and Willett Drive, so pedestrian and vehicle traffic will still need to go around this area.

Recreation Fields -- The recreation fields at 22nd and Armory streets have reopened to the public. They will be closed again later as needed.

Downey Hall Renovation -- Core window replacement will continue on the second, third and fourth floors. The contractor is completing punch list items.

Education Building -- Re-roofing project continues with staging on the southwest side. Staging area will be removed and set at Education Annex. Intermittent access to Prexy's Pasture north sidewalk will be used for deliveries.
