Sylvia Parker

Sylvia Parker will serve as the interim director of the University of Wyoming Science and Mathematics Teaching Center (SMTC) effective Aug. 1.

Parker has been SMTC coordinator since 2005 and before that worked for the Annenberg Foundation's Rural School and Community Trust. She has worked as a teacher, researcher and advocate providing professional development and technical assistance to teachers, schools and communities seeking to create high quality public schools. Her work has primarily focused on rural education, place-based learning, curriculum, assessment and staff development.

A national search for a new director will continue in the fall. The SMTC serves as a resource for teachers and as a hub for collaboration on grants among K-12 schools, the Wyoming Department of Education, community colleges, and UW.

Jointly supported by the colleges of Education and Arts and Sciences, the SMTC facilitates collaborative interdisciplinary professional development projects that support teachers in Wyoming and across the Western United States.
