UW President Tom Buchanan Statement on the Constantinides Family Tragedy

July 22, 2011

University of Wyoming President Tom Buchanan issued the following statement about the deaths of four members of the Constantinides family that has close ties to UW. Funeral liturgy for them will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, July 25, at Saint Patrick's Catholic Church in Wheatland.

The University of Wyoming community is heart broken by the news of the unspeakable tragedy that claimed the lives of Laurel Constantinides and her three daughters, Hanna, Zoey and Lucia.

We cannot begin to comprehend what such a loss means to their loved ones.

Laurel and her husband, Alex, were exemplary students and contributors to campus when they attended the university. Alex's parents, Janet and Christos, are retired faculty members who were highly-respected throughout the university and in Laramie. Christos served 35 years in the Department of Electrical Engineering, fondly known as "Doctor C" to his students. Janet's contributions were immeasurable in her many roles as professor, department head, associate dean of Arts and Sciences, faculty athletics representative and other service to the campus and community.

We join many others in offering our love, thoughts and prayers.
