Athena Kennedy is the University of Wyoming College of Education's new Statewide Elementary Education Program (SEP) coordinator.

She will lead efforts in student service, program administration, marketing and promotion.  A doctoral degree student in the College of Education, Kennedy has several years of experience in advising and program coordination work at Colorado State University, Arizona State University and California State University-San Bernardino.

"UW and Wyoming community colleges share a commitment to prepare the best teachers for students in Wyoming schools," says Reed Scull, associate dean of the UW Outreach School. "The SEP is focused on two critical needs - preparing elementary education teachers and educational access for site-bound students."

The SEP program requirements and expectations are exactly the same as for the campus-based programs in Laramie and Casper, but they are delivered with hybrid technologies and on a slightly different schedule to accommodate the site-bound students.

"This provides flexibility for non-traditional students who may have family or employment responsibilities in addition to their academic work," Scull says. The need for students to travel to the UW Laramie campus for classes is eliminated.

For more information, contact Kennedy at (307) 766-4052 or email awolfe@uwyo.edu.
