Comic Book Creator to Discuss Comic History


September 1, 2011 — Cartoonist and comic theorist Scott McCloud will give a free lecture at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 7, in the University of Wyoming Arts and Sciences auditorium.

McCloud's 215 page non-fiction comic book, "Understanding Comics: The Invisible Art," explores the definition of comics as well as the medium's historical development and its central vocabulary. Widely popular, "Understanding Comics" has been praised by well-known graphic novel and comic authors such as Art Spiegelman and Will Eisner.

McCloud will visit various UW English classes throughout the day Thursday, Sept. 8.
