Campus Construction Update for Week of Oct. 30

These are among the construction activities scheduled Oct.30-Nov. 5 at the University of Wyoming:

Notice: Snow and ice removal will occur as needed throughout the winter. Please use caution around snow removal equipment and be safe walking, riding and driving on the snow. Starting Nov. 1, there is No Parking from 2-6 a.m. in the tow away zone on the south side of Lewis to allow for snow and ice removal.

The Facilities Planning Office reports the following activities for the week:

Berry Biodiversity Conservation Center Landscaping /Bureau of Mines Alley Improvements (Scheduled completion Oct. 31) -- The installation of the traffic gate arms is complete with the arms secured in an open position until programming and staff coordination and training is complete. Minor electrical coordination and installation will be completed this week. The contractor will begin removing construction equipment and vehicles from the area. The landscaped area north of the Pharmacy Building will be covered for the winter and will be completed next spring.

Wyoming Union Restroom Renovation (Scheduled completion: Mid December) -- Demolition work is complete on first and second floors. Contractor vehicles and equipment will be parked around the perimeter of the south wing. Proceed with caution around these areas. New walls for the first and second floor restrooms are in place and mechanical/electrical rough-in is under way. New ceiling installation will begin this week. The storage closet is complete except for door installation. Third floor ductwork is installed with patching and finishes work to follow.

Ivinson Building Deconstruction -- Deconstruction is nearly complete. The fencing around the Ivinson Building, which encompasses 33 total parking spaces to the south, will be changed in the next few weeks with details forthcoming.

Student Apartments -- The contractor has set up fencing around the three-block area south of Willett between Crane and Soule. Site utilities are nearly complete. Apartment building concrete footings and foundations are 90 percent complete. Apartment framing continues. There will be a total of 15 apartment buildings (332 beds) with a community center and maintenance building.

ESCo Project (Energy Services Company) -- Long Energy Services Company will be working extensively this week throughout Agriculture, Engineering, Education and Arts & Science buildings starting on Tuesday. This will affect occupants for just a few minutes at a time. Workers will wear identifying badges.

Visual Arts Center (22nd St. and Willett Drive near the Centennial Complex) -- Work is continuing on site and drive modifications along the west parking lot. Work on replacement of curb cut and sidewalk will take place on 22nd Street. Final site grading, irrigation, planting and site concrete are progressing. Watch for minor work outside the contained construction area. Materials and equipment will continue to arrive on site for continuing site and interior construction. Finishing of interior spaces, painting, ceilings, floors and installation/testing of mechanical/electrical systems is ongoing on throughout. Be aware that there will be construction traffic throughout the construction period. Foot and vehicular traffic will not be permitted across the site. The contractor may be extending work hours.

Energy Resources Center (1020 Lewis St.) -- Fencing configuration may change as needed to accommodate construction and access. Access to main campus between Earth Sciences and the Berry Center may be closed accommodate sidewalk replacement. There will be construction traffic for delivery of materials throughout the week. Lewis Street will remain closed during construction. Parking will be limited in areas around construction including the drive along the west side of Engineering. The access from main campus along the west side of Engineering to Lewis Street will be closed along the construction area for completion of foundations and utilities. The west end of the ramp behind Engineering will be closed. Handicapped parking has been relocated to the corner of Lewis and 10th streets access through the Berry Center. Placement of concrete foundation walls is continuing throughout the week. There will be work on underground utilities throughout the site as foundation work allows. Backfill at foundations will continue as foundation work allows. Preparation for steel erection will begin with arrival of erector's crane.

State Fiscal Stabilization Fund Modernization, Renovation and Repairs (Scheduled completion, this fall) -- The project focuses on major maintenance items, ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) improvements and classroom improvements. Punch list work is scheduled at Animal Science, Arts & Sciences, Hoyt Hall, Engineering Building and Physical Sciences Building. Punch list items and mechanical system commissioning is scheduled at the Pharmacy Building.

The UW Physical Plant reports the following activities for the week:

Notice: Irrigation sprinkler system work is complete.

Fine Arts -- The parking lot north of Fine Arts remains partially blocked for testing of the well and pump. Work is on hold pending material arrival.

South Shuttle Lot (15th and Spring Creek) -- Phase two of the construction on the north part of the lot is nearing completion. Barricades will remain in place until all work is complete. The bus pickup and drop off area is by the temporary bus shelter.

East Shuttle Lot (30th and Willett) -- Bus shelter relocations continue. Please use caution around work areas.

Engineering Building -- Mural installation throughout the building will continue this week. Please use caution in these areas.

Animal Science -- Painting in the hallways continues. Please use caution around work areas.

Bureau of Mines Building -- Ceiling replacement will take place on the second floor main lobby hallway. Please use caution in this area.

Half Acre Gym -- North and south stairways are being painted. Please use caution in these areas.

Centrex Building -- Roof work will occur Thursday and Friday. Signs will be posted on Willett and the sidewalk will be closed. Pedestrian traffic will be routed to the south side of the road. 

Biological Sciences Building -- Floor tile replacement is on hold due to material delays.

Classroom Building -- Installation of the ATM is complete.
