Careers in Health Sciences Topic of Statewide Program Nov. 11
October 26, 2011 — The University of Wyoming will host an informational session for Wyoming high school, community college and UW Outreach School students who are interested in pursuing careers in health professions.
The session will be Friday, Nov. 11, from 3:30-5 p.m. at videoconferencing sites in Cheyenne, Casper, Cody, Evanston, Gillette, Jackson, Laramie, Powell, Rawlins, Riverton, Rock Springs, Sheridan and Torrington.
Students who are interested in careers in health medicine, including medicine, dentistry, podiatry, physical therapy, occupational therapy, physician's assistant and optometry, are encouraged to attend this information session. Faculty and staff members in community colleges or Outreach centers who are interested in learning more about advising pre-professional health students and the resources UW offers to those students are also welcome to attend.
The session will cover the academic requirements and expectations for admission to various health profession programs at UW.
"Students will learn about the timelines for preparing and applying to health profession programs, access programs for Wyoming residents , including WICHE-PSEP, WY-DENT AND WWAMI," says Craig Vaske, health sciences adviser at UW. "They also will learn the value of experiences in the areas of research, health care, job shadowing, community service, cross-cultural learning, leadership roles, professional issues and services and resources offered by the UW Pre-Professional Health Advising office."
