October 10, 2011

The University of Wyoming hockey club's 2011-12 season got off to a rough start last weekend with two losses to Border War rival Colorado State University.

In their debut under first-year head coach Eric Wood, the Cowboys fell 7-1 and 10-2 against the Rams (5-1) in American Collegiate Hockey Association Division III action.

Ethan Crockett (Cheyenne) netted UW's lone goal in the first game of the series, with assists by Jim Fried (Kirkwood, Mo.) and Dan Lang (Casper). Jake Bates (Jackson) and Sam Dielwart (Calgary, Alberta) scored unassisted goals for the Cowboys in the series finale.

UW returns to action this weekend with a pair of games against the Colorado College club squad. The teams meet at 8:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the Laramie Community Ice & Event Center.
