Apply Now for Statewide Elementary Education Bachelor’s Degree Program
November 15, 2011 — The University of Wyoming Outreach School and College of Education are now accepting student applications for the Statewide Elementary Education bachelor's degree program for the cohort beginning in fall 2012. Applications are due no later than Dec. 31.
The Statewide Elementary Program (SEP) is a partnership between UW and the Wyoming community colleges to deliver statewide the UW Elementary Education Degree Program.
"The SEP program is ideal for students who are place-bound in rural areas in Wyoming and who are pursuing an associate's degree in education at a community college," says Athena Kennedy, the new SEP coordinator. "SEP courses are delivered via distance education (video or audio conference and online), and some classes require intensive weekend class sessions in Casper or Riverton. Intensive weekends require attendance on Friday night and all day Saturday class sessions, for about three weekends per semester."
The program duration is for three years after students have completed their associate's degree and have applied for admission to UW. Two SEP courses are offered per semester to assist students with academic and work-life balance. Also, additional courses can be taken to complete work at a community college, or online through UW, to finish the bachelor's degree.
The degree requires student teaching the last semester of the program. Students are required to student teach for 16 weeks full-time as their final practicum experience.
An application to UW and to the SEP program is required for admission. Official transcripts, from all institutions of attendance, are required for admission to UW and unofficial transcript copies are required for admission to SEP. The SEP application can be found online at http://www.uwyo.edu/ted/elem-program/index.html.
