Willena Stanford Diversity Award Nominations Being Accepted

Nominations for the diversity award honoring Willena Stanford, a longtime University of Wyoming African American and Diaspora Studies instructor, will be accepted until Friday, Dec. 3.

"The award, created by the UW Martin Luther King Jr. March and Days of Dialogue steering committee, recognizes a student who has made significant contributions to increase awareness of diversity and the richness it brings to the UW community," award coordinator John Nutter says. "Stanford, a former committee member, had a strong commitment to the education of all students and made significant contributions to diversity at UW."

The award is available to any UW student enrolled for the 2011 spring semester, including undergraduate and graduate students, on-campus and outreach students and those with full-time or part-time status. Last year's recipient was Sydney Ezell, and previous winners include Zanyaille Lyons, Helen Chanthongthip, Adriana Magana, Jeremy Joseph and Tracy Montanez.

Nominations will be accepted from UW students, faculty, staff and administrators. Nominations should be in letter format and sent to John Nutter, Student Affairs, 408 Old Main, Dept. 3066, 1000 E. University Ave., Laramie, WY, 82071, or emailed to  Since nominations are judged on the strength of the nominating letters, specific details of the nominee's academic and co-curricular activities are required.

A committee composed of representatives of the steering committee and the Multicultural Affairs sector of the Dean of Students office will make the selection. The winner will be announced and all nominees will be recognized at the Martin Luther King Jr. March and community supper Monday, Jan. 16. The winner will receive a $500 gift card from the UW Bookstore. The MLK/Days of Dialogue steering committee funds the award.
