UW Cyclist Earns National Scholastic Honor

December 22, 2011

The USA Cycling Development Foundation has awarded one of two national John Stenner Memorial Scholarships to University of Wyoming standout bicyclist Jill Behlen.

A junior in molecular biology, Behlen is an honor roll student from Boulder, Colo. She won the Division I women's individual omnium at the recent USA Cycling Collegiate Mountain Bike National Championships and was the top American finisher in the U23 women's race at the Union Cycliste Internationale Mountain Bike and Trials World Championships in Champéry, Switzerland.

The Stenner Scholarship recognizes academic achievements, athletic accomplishments and service to the community with an emphasis on collegiate team involvement and leadership. Stenner scholarships are funded by donations to the USA Cycling Development Foundation in the name of John Stenner, one of the founders of collegiate cycling.

Despite her full academic schedule, Behlen still finds time for extracurricular activities. She received a Peak Achievement Award, serves as vice president of the UW Cycling Club and is a member of the university's Nordic ski club.
