Campus Construction Update for Week of Jan. 29-Feb. 4
These are among the construction activities scheduled Jan. 29-Feb. 4 at the University of Wyoming:
The UW Facilities Planning Office reports the following activities for the week.
Student Apartments Bison Run Village (Scheduled completion August 2012) -- The new apartments are in a three-block area south of Willett Drive between Crane and Soule streets. Apartment framing, electrical/plumbing rough-ins and insulation installation continue. Drywall installation is ongoing. The community center is complete. Punch lists are in progress, with occupancy scheduled for Feb. 6. There will be a total of 15 apartment buildings (332 beds) with a community center and maintenance building.
Ivinson Parking Lot Expansion -- Due to frozen ground, the backfill of the old Ivinson Building will begin in the spring along with the parking lot expansion work. Fifteen pre-existing parking spaces are now open with access off 11th Street.
Visual Arts Building (22nd St. and Willett Drive near the Centennial Complex) -- Spring semester classes began Jan. 9. Be aware that there will be traffic and activities throughout the site as final furniture is received; remaining items are being moved into the building and the contractor is completing touch-up work. The contractor's office will be removed this week and correction of minor site items will start.
Energy Innovation Center (formerly called the Energy Resources Center, at 1020 Lewis St., scheduled completion September 2012) -- Access to main campus will be between or through Earth Sciences and the Berry Center. Lewis Street will remain closed during construction. Parking will be limited in areas around construction, including the drive along the west side of Engineering. The access from main campus along the west side of Engineering to Lewis Street will be closed during this phase of construction. The west end of the ramp behind Engineering will be closed. Handicapped parking has been relocated to the northwest corner of Lewis and 10th streets, with access through the Berry Center or Earth Sciences to main campus. Minor concrete work at foundations on the west and floor slab pours will continue throughout the week. There will be minor work on underground utilities throughout the site as foundation and steel erection allow. A small crane is on site for placement of remaining minor steel work. Backfill at foundations will continue as remaining foundation work allows. There will be construction traffic for delivery of materials throughout the week. Expect congestion from deliveries. Framing of interior walls will continue including rough-in of mechanical and electrical systems. Preparation for exterior wall systems will start. Take extreme care when walking around trucks waiting in the street.
A&S Auditorium (Scheduled completion, this March) -- The project focuses on adding wheelchair access from the seating area to the stage. Painting is scheduled this week. The auditorium will be available for scheduled performances.
The UW Physical Plant reports the following activities for the week. Please direct questions to the service desk, 766-6225.
Notice: Snow and ice removal will occur as needed throughout the winter. Please use caution around snow removal equipment and be safe walking, riding and driving on the snow. There is no parking from 2-6 a.m. in the tow-away zone on the south side of Lewis Street to allow for snow and ice removal. Report ice spots to the Physical Plant service desk.
Animal Science -- Painting in the east hallways continues. Please use caution around work areas.
Knight Hall -- Carpet replacement and painting is finishing on the third floor this week. Please use caution in these areas.
Campus -- The well work in the parking lot west of Fine Arts is complete.
East Shuttle Lot (30th Street and Willett Drive) -- Bus shelter relocations are on hold until the new shelters arrive.
