Poetry Slam Wednesday

January 23, 2012

Poetry writers and listeners are invited to a poetry slam for University of Wyoming students Wednesday, Jan. 25, in the Wyoming Union Gardens.

Not only will it provide for a great night of poetic entertainment, but competitors will have the opportunity to win an all-expenses-paid trip to represent UW in the Regional Rec Games Poetry Slam competition in Colorado Springs.

"When we hosted this event last year, we were originally nervous about how many people would participate and the quality of the competition," says Stephanie Long, Student Activities Council graduate assistant.  "We were blown away by the talent and we knew we wanted to host this event once again this year."

Those wishing to compete can sign up in the Campus Activities Center in the lower level of the Wyoming Union.  Contestants will be expected to stick to a three-minute limit to present their poetry.  A panel of judges will then choose two contestants to go on to the regional competition in February.
