Conservation Expo Saturday

February 23, 2012

Interested in composting, installing a wind turbine, purchasing a hybrid vehicle, water-efficient landscaping or building an energy efficient home? Experts will answer your questions at the 2012 Laramie Conservation Expo, which will take place Saturday, Feb. 25, from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Albany County Fairgrounds Activity Center.

Sponsored by the Laramie Rivers Conservation District and the University of Wyoming's Environment and Natural Resources Program, the event is free and open to the public.

More than 45 exhibitors representing business, government, nonprofits and home practitioners will provide information on ways to conserve energy, water and other resources in your home or business.

"This is a great opportunity for area residents and homeowners to get free information on a host of things from gardening to solar panels, and lots more," says Jill Lovato, assistant director of the Ruckelshaus Institute for Environment and Natural Resources at UW.

"We provide a showcase for a variety of local foods and community gardening activities that have blossomed in Laramie over the past few years," adds Trish Penny, education coordinator for LRCD.

Vendors will display products to help with landscaping, green building, alternative energy, alternative transportation, recycling and environmental education. Government agencies and local nonprofits will explain their services. Lunch will be available for purchase. Ongoing discussion panels will delve into such topics as alternative energy and local foods. Children are welcome.
