Casper Town Meeting to Focus on Internationalization

April 5, 2012 — Casper residents are invited to share ideas about improving internationalization efforts during a town meeting Thursday, April 12, at 6:30 p.m. at the University of Wyoming Outreach Building, 951 N. Poplar St.

The meeting is part of a UW review of its policies, practices and offerings to increase international activities, awareness and educational opportunities in the state.

UW was one of a few universities nationwide invited to participate in the American Council on Education's "Internationalization Lab." The town meeting is a way to gather input on how to improve Wyoming's international efforts, says Anne Alexander, UW's director of International Programs. It includes assessing opportunities for internationalization that already exist at UW, including foreign guest speakers, foreign languages and study abroad programs.

"We hope to learn people's thoughts on our programming, speakers and cultural events; and about workforce development needs and what our graduates need to know about the world around them," Alexander says. "Input gathered will be used to assess how we can broaden the impacts and benefits of international experiences throughout the state."

When the review is complete, she says the university will develop a strategic plan to improve internationalization opportunities.

"We truly hope for a strong response from our UW alumni and friends so that our project includes the input of our communities across the state," Alexander says.
