UW’s Lucy Carter, Elizabeth Flaherty Receive James C. Hurst Awards
April 2, 2012 — Lucy Carter, associate lecturer in the Department of Communication Disorders, and Elizabeth Flaherty, assistant lecturer in the Department of Zoology and Physiology, were named the 2011-2012 recipients of the James C. Hurst Each Student-A Person Award.
The award was established by UW's parent program, Cowboy Parents, to recognize faculty or staff members who go above and beyond their normal responsibilities to personalize the student experience and create a warm and caring environment for students.
The award honors James C. Hurst, UW's vice president for student affairs from 1981-2000, who is remembered for his warm and caring demeanor, his wisdom and his dedication to student success.
UW students nominate individuals, with the Cowboy Parents Council making the final selection.
"We had more nominations this year than anyone could remember," says Kim Shannon, manager of marketing and the Cowboy Parents Program. "It was amazing to all of us the positive impact these candidates have made on students, which made the decision very difficult for the council."
