UW Alumni Association Scholarship Auction Nets Record $45,000
The University of Wyoming Alumni Association (UWAA) netted an all-time record of $45,157 during its 21st annual Scholarship Auction, presented by Infinity Power and Controls, Capital One and the Holiday Inn-Laramie.
A sell-out total of 180 UW fans and supporters from across the region attended this year's auction at the Wildcatter Stadium Club and Suites at UW. The proceeds will be used to fund UW student scholarships awarded by the Alumni Association.
"The event was once again a record-breaking success, due to the support our many generous sponsors, donors and attendees and the efforts of the UW Alumni Association board members and staff," says Keener Fry, the association's executive director.
The UWAA manages a scholarship program that encourages graduating high school seniors and community college transfer students to attend UW.
"Alumni and friends have been donating scholarship funds to help students attend UW since 1906," Fry says.
The UWAA has awarded nearly $1 million in scholarships since 1980. The program will continue to expand to benefit approximately 42 students in 2012-13 with a commitment of more than $100,000 annually. Scholarships valued at $1,500 per year are awarded to both Wyoming and out-of-state undergraduate and graduate students. New awards have been added to support more Wyoming community college transfer students, veterans and underrepresented multicultural students.
