UW Names Student Employee of the Year
May 2, 2012 — Sristi Gautam of Nepal, a graduating senior in business administration, has been chosen as the University of Wyoming's Student Employee of the Year.
She received a certificate and cash award for her outstanding service to UW.
A research aide with UW Residence Life and Dining Services, Gautam was chosen based on her reliability, initiative, uniqueness of contribution, quality of work, professionalism, and community and campus service.
There were three runners-up in the competition. They were Dara Anderson of Aurora, Colo., prospector and past orientation leader with the UW Admissions Office; Daniel Mosiman, Laramie, research assistant with the Department of Mechanical Engineering; and Mandy Thomas, The Plains, Va., assistant Swine Unit and Feed Mill operator.
Diane DeLany, University Apartments coordinator, says Gautam has taken the initiative to learn new systems.
"She quickly learned the many data systems that we use in our daily operations to assign students in their housing needs," she says. "She has been a great help to students who come to our office for assistance with problems they may be experiencing."
Kristyn McCord, Residence Life & Dining Services office associate, praises Gautam's enthusiasm and work ethic.
"She is an amazing worker and our office would not operate as effectively without her," McCord says. "She has become a success all around, and has proven herself to be reliable and the most outstanding individual I have had the honor to work with."
Gautam served as president of the International Student Association and was an active volunteer and participant in many other student organizations, including the Wyoming African Student Association, the Muslim Student Association, Friends of Nepal and the Indian Student Association.
Additionally, she helped organize the spring talent and fashion show, and worked to get more students involved in the weekly International Coffee Hour, which brings together students from many different cultures.
Her ability to get people involved was best displayed when she revamped the International Student Association's Facebook group. Her work on this project has given students a place where they can communicate and learn about what is happening on campus.
