UW Police Chief Resigns

May 30, 2012 — University of Wyoming Police Department Chief Troy Lane is resigning to take the job of chief of police for the University of Tennessee at Knoxville.

"We're sorry to see Troy go, but we're very appreciative of the contributions he's made to the UW community during his time here," says UW Interim Vice President of Administrative Operations Mark Collins. "Chief Lane has provided outstanding leadership to both the UW campus and local law enforcement. We wish him well in his new position."

Lane is scheduled to begin his new duties on June 25.  He has been UW's police chief since 2007, supervising 14 sworn officers and 10 support personnel. At UT-Knoxville, he'll supervise a staff of 79, including 52 sworn officers.

During Lane's tenure at UW, he led an effort to update the university's emergency response plan, arranged mutual-assistance agreements with other law enforcement agencies and created a system of anonymous reporting of crimes and suspicious behavior. A graduate of Manhattan (Kan.) Christian College and Ft. Hays State University in Kansas, he came to UW after working as assistant director of the Kansas State University Police Department.
