UW/CC Center Commencement May 10

May 8, 2012 — The University of Wyoming/Casper College (UW/CC) Center's commencement ceremony will honor 129 graduates Thursday, May 10, at 7:30 p.m. at the Casper Events Center.

Degrees will be awarded in applied science, biology, communication, elementary education, English, humanities and fine arts, journalism, mathematics and science, political science, psychology, secondary science education biology, social science, technical education, women's studies, business administration, nursing and social work. Master's degrees in social work also will be awarded.

Joanne Theobald, assistant lecturer of social work at the UW/CC Center, will offer the faculty reflections, followed by student speaker Kaja Raczynski, candidate for a bachelor's degree in psychology.

Maggi Murdock, associate provost in the UW Office of Academic Affairs and dean of the UW Outreach School, will offer the commencement address. The UW/CC Center has long been part of Murdock's career at UW. As an instructor of political science and criminal justice, followed by a term as the center's director, she served UW in Casper for more than 20 years. She has received numerous awards, such as the  John P. Ellbogen Meritorious Classroom Teaching Award and the George Duke Humphrey Distinguished Faculty Award.

"The UW/CC Center ceremony is truly special," says Brent Pickett, associate dean and director of the UW/CC Center. "A lot of faculty, administrators and staff travel from Laramie to see and help confer degrees on UW/CC students. It is small enough so that we can have every graduate walk across the stage and shake President Buchanan's hand, but large enough to make it a great community celebration."

A reception for graduates and their families follows the ceremony.
