UW student Lindsey Miller’s photo of this castle in western Scotland earned honorable mention in an international photo contest.

Lindsey Miller of Laramie, a University of Wyoming art history student, was named honorable mention in an international photo contest sponsored by University Language Services.

Students who have studied abroad or have chosen a study abroad program were asked to submit photos for the contest. They also were required to submit a 200-word description of why their photo illustrates their inspiration for studying abroad.

Miller took the photo of Eilean Donan, a castle in Dornie, Scotland, while on a UW study abroad program. A spring UW graduate, she has been accepted to the University of Aberdeen, Scotland, where she will pursue a master’s degree in art history.

“This program is a combination of art history and museum studies, and the qualities of this program make it my dream program of study,” Miller says.

She says she entered the photo because of its history and architectural structure.

“Generations upon generations have lived, fought for, admired and studied this single structure. It has seen neglect, destruction and restoration, but it has survived,” Miller says. “By studying it, we can understand history of the culture that depended on this single building. This structure has an amazing tale to tell.”
