The guest woodwind quintet August Winds opens the University of Wyoming Department of Music Faculty Recital Series with a free performance at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 29, in the Fine Arts concert hall.
This 11-year-old chamber ensemble began playing together as students at Indiana University and has performed together and separately as soloists around the globe. Their annual concert/seminar at the Abbey of St. Walburga north of Fort Collins, Colo., has become the hallmark of their work. They perform a variety of both old and new music and encourage audience members to sing along, clap rhythms and even dance during performances.
August Winds will perform works by Mendelssohn, Grieg, De Sa and Maslanka. Immediately following the concert, there will be a question and answer session where performers will discuss their careers, including the artistic and business sides of running a professional chamber group.
