Author Maldonado-Torres to Lead Hispanic Heritage Month Program Monday

September 14, 2012 — Nelson Maldonado-Torres, author of “Against War,” will lecture Monday, Sept. 17, from 4-6 p.m. at the University of Wyoming College of Education auditorium.

His lecture, “Does the University have Color?: Chicana/Latino and Ethnic Studies in Face of Neoconservatism, Neoliberalism, and the Crisis of the Humanities,” is sponsored by the UW Chicano Studies Program to commemorate Hispanic Heritage Month.

Maldonado-Torres also will discuss his book, “Against War,” and a book he’s preparing, “Fanonian Meditations,” Monday, Sept. 17, from noon-1:30 p.m. in the UW Ross Hall Book Discussion Room.

A professor of comparative literature at Rutgers University, Maldonando-Torres received his Ph.D. in religious studies from Brown University.

Other Hispanic Heritage Month activities include a brown-bag luncheon on  decolonial theory and research methods Tuesday, Sept. 18, from noon-1 p.m. in Room 108 of Ross Hall.

Frieda Knobloch, associate professor of American Studies, will conduct a seminar Tuesday, Sept. 18, from 7-9 p.m. at the Cooper Carriage House.
