Campus Construction Update for Week of Sept. 30-Oct. 6

September 28, 2012 — These are among the construction activities scheduled Sept. 30-Oct. 6 at the University of Wyoming.

Ribbon Cutting Friday -- A ribbon-cutting ceremony to dedicate Sullivan Plaza at the northeast corner of Prexy’s Pasture is set for Friday, Oct. 5, at 2 p.m.

The UW Facilities Planning Office reports the following activities for the week:

Ivinson Parking Lot -- The Ivinson monument construction has started on the northwest area of the parking lot. All four metered spaces and motorcycle parking is blocked off for contractor staging. Work may require the Ivinson sidewalk to be closed at times so pedestrians will need to go around the area. All of the Ivinson parking lot is now open, adding 67 new parking spaces including ADA (Americans with Disability Act) spaces and four metered spaces. Access is from both 10th and 11th streets. Landscaping is complete.

Landscape Projects -- Construction continues toward late September completion on Sullivan Plaza, Public Edge Practice Field, Public Edge Southwest Campus Entry Marker and Bureau of Mines landscape.

Sullivan Plaza -- The south entrances of the Education Building and surrounding pedestrian pathways have reopened. Work is substantially complete. Remaining minor and accessory work may continue through Oct. 4. Caution should be exercised within the area.

Public Edge Practice Field (Tailgate Park) -- Work is substantially complete. Remaining minor and accessory work may continue through Oct. 4

Public Edge Southwest Campus Entry Marker -- Adjacent portions of Ninth Street and Grand Avenue pedestrian sidewalks may be temporarily closed by construction through Oct. 4.

Bureau of Mines Landscape -- The vehicular access and pedestrian corridor between the Berry Biodiversity Conservation Center and the Health Sciences Center have reopened, with some temporary limitations imposed to accommodate continuing construction through Oct. 4. General landscaping work is nearly complete.

White Hall Renovations -- Demolition continues on the first through eighth floors, with new installations on the ninth through 12th floors. Excavation for a new transformer vault is on hold on the east side of White Hall. Fencing is placed around the area. The west parking lot will be closed until summer 2013.

Museum Closed -- The UW Geological Museum is closed for renovation and is scheduled to reopen later this semester.

UW Office Annex (21st Street and Garfield, scheduled completion Nov. 15) -- The project involves partial renovation of the lower level of the west wing for improvements to offices and other adjacent multi-use spaces. Installation of mechanical equipment and duct work is under way, and will be completed in two to three weeks. Conference rooms and adjacent spaces will be closed until the end of September.

University of Wyoming/Casper College Student Union (UW/CC Student Union, scheduled completion November 2013) -- Construction has started with site preparation and foundation systems. Structural steel frame is completed, and roof decking will be installed this month. Installation of mechanical duct work has begun on the first floor. Exterior sheathing is planned this month.

Counselor Education Training Clinic (Education Building, scheduled completion Oct. 22) -- Renovation construction work continues in the northeast portion of the Education Building basement. Limited access for students, faculty and staff via the northeast building entry has reopened. Construction activities and staging will continue, requiring appropriate caution in the area. Construction staging will continue to occupy a portion of the pedestrian walkway and accessible parking area northeast of the Education Building. Temporary substitute accessible parking has been designated with temporary signage.

Energy Innovation Center (formerly ERC, at 1020 Lewis St., scheduled completion October 2012) -- Access to main campus will be between or through Earth Sciences and the Berry Center. Lewis Street will remain closed during construction. Parking will be limited in areas around construction, including the drive along the west side of Engineering. The access from main campus, along the west side of Engineering to Lewis Street, will be closed during this phase of construction. The west end of the ramp, behind the Engineering Building, will be closed. Handicapped parking has been relocated to the northwest corner of Lewis and 10th streets, with access through the Berry Center or Earth Sciences Building to main campus.

Interior finishes continue throughout the building. Door and hardware installation is under way. Installation of lab equipment and casework is nearing completion on the first and second floors. Work continues on the south retaining walls to prepare for landscaping. Landscape work is finishing on the north side. Paving and gutter work continues on the east and south of the building. Interior painting is under way, with preparation for floor finish. Expect congestion from delivery trucks, and take extreme care when walking around trucks waiting in the street.

The UW Physical Plant reports the following activities for the week. Please direct questions to the service desk, 766-6225.

Geology and Engineering -- Irrigation system work continues on the north and south sides of the Geology and Engineering buildings. Landscaping crews will be working in the area. Use caution around equipment in the area.

Pump Testing -- Annual fire pump testing is scheduled through Oct. 12 and will involve several buildings on campus. Water flow testing will require the use of hoses and may leave pooled water. Please use caution near hoses and water flow areas.

Wyoming State Vet Lab -- Painting in the main hallways is scheduled. Please use caution near painting equipment.

Jacoby Golf Course -- Construction continues on the east campus drainage project at Jacoby Golf Course. Design for inlet work is under way and will affect the play of hole #7 once construction is started. Re-seeding has been completed. Signs are posted at the affected holes and in the clubhouse. Education Building -- Final system work continues in the Education auditorium to integrate new projector equipment with the existing system.

Campus -- Crews have begun blowing out irrigation systems for the season using compressed air. Work is scheduled to continue throughout September and October. Overspray on sidewalks and driveways may create slippery spots. Please use caution.

Beta House -- Renovations to the first and second floors are under way. Completion of the project is scheduled for October.

Hansen Arena -- Painting of the north wall will continue through this week. Please use caution around equipment.
