Gabriela Martinez, a rising piano soloist, will perform a Cultural Programs concert Saturday, Oct. 6, at 7:30 p.m. in the University of Wyoming Fine Arts concert hall.

Tickets cost $20 for the public and $17 for students and seniors. Tickets are available at the Fine Arts and Wyoming Union box offices, and by calling (307) 766-6666.

She also will perform with the UW Symphony Orchestra Thursday, Oct. 4, at 7:30 p.m. in the Fine Arts concert hall.

“Usually, when semifinalists of the Van Cliburn competition go out on their own, the first step is to sign up with a manager. Gabriela Martinez didn’t do that. She didn’t have to. She had plenty of work, because people kept calling her up and asking her to play,” says UW Cultural Programs Director Cedric Reverand.

Martinez, 22, has gained international recognition for her impassioned performances. Since making her orchestral debut at age 7, Martinez has appeared as a guest soloist with orchestras such as the Chicago, New Jersey, Fort Worth, Pacific and San Francisco symphonies, and the Philadelphia Chamber Orchestra. She earned her bachelor’s and master’s of music degrees at Juilliard as a full scholarship student.

“[Martinez] offered an elegant, tart and incisive performance,” says the New York Times.
