Religion Writer Stephen Prothero Will Speak at UW

Boston University professor and author Stephen Prothero will speak Sept. 25 at 7 p.m. in the University of Wyoming Arts and Sciences auditorium.

Well-known religious commentator and writer Stephen Prothero will speak Tuesday, Sept. 25, at 7 p.m. in the University of Wyoming Arts and Sciences auditorium.

He will visit with students in religious studies classes earlier that day.

A professor in the Department of Religion at Boston University, Prothero has written numerous books, most recently “The American Bible: How Our Words Unite, Divide and Define a Nation.” He has commented about religion on multiple National Public Radio programs as well as on television programs that aired on CNN, NBC, MSNBC, FOX and PBS. He guest starred on “The Daily Show” with Jon Stewart, “The Colbert Report” and “The Oprah Winfrey Show.”

A regular contributor to the Wall Street Journal and USA Today, Prothero also wrote for the New York Times, the Washington Post, the Los Angeles Times and the Boston Globe. In 2010, he spoke about religious literacy at the White House and, during 2012-13, he will be a fellow at the Smithsonian's Museum of American History.
