United Way Campaign Kickoff Sept. 18 at UW

September 12, 2012

The University of Wyoming’s 2012 United Way campaign will begin Tuesday, Sept. 18, with a campus campaign kickoff at 3 p.m. in the Wyoming Union Family Room.

The entire campus community is invited to attend the event, which will feature door prizes, refreshments and information about the United Way of Albany County -- and the 14 nonprofit agencies it supports.

UW’s 2012 United Way campaign committee has established a goal of $125,000 -- in part to mark the 125th anniversaries of both the university and the United Way. In 2011, more than 410 UW employees contributed $122,500.

UW employees may donate to the United Way through payroll deduction or one-time contributions. Contributions from students are also welcomed.

“We invite everyone at UW to come to the kickoff and learn more about all the great things the United Way does for the community,” say Kim Zafft and Dave Bagley, co-chairs of the 2012 UW campaign.

The goal for the overall United Way of Albany County campaign this year is $400,125. Co-chairing the countywide effort is Mary E. Burman, dean of UW’s Fay W. Whitney School of Nursing.

“The generosity of UW employees allows the United Way to help many people in need here in Albany County,” says Paul Heimer, the agency’s executive director. “Without the United Way, a lot of the programs and services that provide a huge safety net for the residents of Albany County would have to be drastically cut back or might even disappear.”
