UW, Community Colleges Plan Conference
September 18, 2012 — Academic and student affairs leaders from Wyoming’s seven community colleges will join with their counterparts at the University of Wyoming for a daylong conference Thursday, Sept. 20, at the UW Conference Center/Hilton Garden Inn.
The annual Wyoming Academic & Student Affairs Leaders Conference provides an opportunity for about 50 vice presidents, deans and directors from the institutions to exchange ideas and concerns.
The conference begins at 8 a.m. Thursday with a welcome from UW Provost Myron Allen. Among the topics slated for discussion throughout the day are UW’s 2011-12 data on college transfer students; an update on general education revisions at UW; efforts by UW, the governor’s office, legislators and industry to upgrade the College of Engineering and Applied Science; an initiative to encourage high school graduates to attend college; and the NCAR-Wyoming Supercomputing Center’s connections with community colleges.
UW and the community colleges have worked closely for years to ease the transition for students moving from community colleges to the university, and to extend higher education opportunities throughout the state.
