UW Hosts High School Band Day

September 20, 2012 — The University of Wyoming welcomed 700 junior high and high school students to War Memorial Stadium for the annual Band Day Sept. 15.

This year, 17 high school and three junior high bands joined the Western Thunder Marching Band as part of Band Day. The visiting schools attended rehearsals and performed during halftime of the UW-Cal Poly football game.

“We host this event to provide a performance opportunity for students that they may not otherwise have,” says UW Band Director Brad Williamson. “Additionally, we also do this as an outreach event to allow students to visit the UW campus, attend a football game and play with the Western Thunder Marching Band.”

Williamson considers this year’s Band Day to have been a huge success.

“This is the most school participation we have had in recent history,” Williamson says. “The students were well prepared for the performance, which is a credit to them and their directors.”

Schools participating in this year’s event were: Buffalo High School, Burlington High School, Campbell County High School, Douglas High School, Glendo-Chugwater High School, Hanna-Elk Mountain High School, Kemmerer High School, Lander Valley High School, Lander Valley Junior High School, Laramie High School and Laramie Junior High School.

Other participating schools were Moorcroft High School, Pinedale High School, Pinedale Junior High School, Rawlins High School, Riverton High School, Rock Springs High School, Sundance High School, Worland High School and Brush High School from Colorado.
