Adam LoDolce, author of “Being Alone Sucks!”, will speak Oct. 16 as part of the Mental
Health Awareness Weeks at UW.
A variety of events is planned for this year’s “Mental Health Awareness Weeks” at
the University of Wyoming.
“Each year, on campuses across the nation, efforts are made to bring awareness to
students, staff and faculty regarding mental health issues, including prevalence,
warning signs, support, and treatment through events and activities,” says Keith Evashevski,
UW Counseling Center director.
The following free events and activities are scheduled Oct. 9-22:
- Tuesday, Oct. 9 -- Mental health screening provided by the UW athletics department,
Rochelle Center.
- Wednesday, Oct. 10, noon -- Stress survival tips will highlight strategies for dealing
with midterms and other stressful situations, Wyoming Union Room 002.
- Thursday, Oct. 11, 5 p.m. -- “Coming In for Coming Out” reception to support LGBTQ
students, Wyoming Union Room 106.
- Monday, Oct. 15, noon -- “How to Be an Ally for the LGBTQ Community” helps establish
strong support systems for the community, Wyoming Union Family Room.
- Monday, Oct. 15-Friday, Oct 19 -- Information tables on a variety of mental health
topics, Wyoming Union main level.
- Tuesday, Oct. 16, 7 p.m. -- “Dating Demystified” discussion with author Adam LoDolce
who wrote “Being Alone Sucks!”, Wyoming Union Ballroom.
- Friday, Oct. 19, 4:15 p.m. -- Yoga and body scans will be given to promote physical
health, Half Acre Gym.
- Friday, Oct. 19, 9 p.m. -- UW “So You Think You Can Dance” competition, Education
auditorium.
- Monday, Oct. 22, 2 p.m. -- Panel “Student Veterans on Mental Health” will examine
issues and perceptions affecting veterans, Wyoming Union Room 221.
The University Counseling Center/AWARE Program, Nontraditional and Gender Programs,
the Rainbow Resource Center, the STOP Violence Program, Lifesavers Initiative, Department
of Family and Consumer Sciences, Counselor Education Program, Dean of Students Office,
Campus Recreation, Veterans Services Center and Residence Life and Dining Services
sponsor the events.
