Small Change in UW Employee Insurance Premiums

November 12, 2012

University of Wyoming employees will see a relatively small change in the deductions made from their December 2012 paychecks for health and dental insurance premiums, for coverage effective January 2013.

Depending on whether family members are on the coverage and whether the coverage includes optional dental, employees will pay from 63 cents less to $1.40 more each month.

Claims expenses are increasing at slightly lower rates, and there have been increased numbers of enrollments in family coverage. Savings would have been more substantial had it not been for an increase in the dental premiums and an adjustment to the employer contribution. The employer contribution continues to pay 85-100 percent of the actual health and dental insurance premiums, depending on the type of coverage that has been elected.

For a full explanation of insurance changes and available options during the current open enrollment period that ends Nov. 30, 2012, refer to the email message that was sent to all benefited employees on Oct. 11, 2012, or go to the HR Benefits web site.
