UWs Ace International Laboratory Seeks Community Input

November 1, 2012

State residents will have an opportunity to share ideas to improve international education during meetings scheduled Thursday, Nov. 8, at 10 a.m. at distance education sites in Cheyenne, Casper, Gillette, Jackson, Laramie, Powell, Riverton, Rock Springs, Sheridan and Torrington.

Earlier this year, the University of Wyoming hosted town hall meetings and focus groups in several communities around the state in order to gather their thoughts and advice about international opportunities in higher education. As a part of the American Council on Education's (ACE) Internationalization Laboratory, a site visit team of international education experts from across the country visits each institution.

The one-hour Nov. 8 meeting, which will take place via videoconference, will inform participants about UW’s recommendations to expand and improve international education. It will give Wyoming residents an opportunity to provide feedback on those recommendations, as well as a chance to discuss UW's international education efforts with the site visit team experts.

Last year, UW accepted ACE’s invitation to participate in the Internationalization Laboratory -- a small group of institutions working on issues related to comprehensive internationalization and assessment.

UW’s Internationalization Steering Team engaged in an extensive and productive outreach effort to help develop its recommendations for institutional action.

Barbara Hill, senior associate at ACE and a member of the site visit team, says, “All indications are that the University of Wyoming has already taken great steps toward developing a more global campus, and I look forward to learning more.”

All members of the community are invited and are encouraged to share questions, comments and suggestions.

The meetings will take place in UW Outreach classrooms at the following locations:

Cheyenne -- LCCC, Room AB 208;

Casper -- UW/CC Center at Casper College, Room LH 4;

Gillette -- Gillette College, Room 171 M;

Jackson -- Center for the Arts, Room 120;

Laramie -- Wyoming Hall, Room 312;

Powell -- Northwest College Room, ORB 122;

Riverton -- Central Wyoming College, Room ITECC 105;

Rock Springs -- Western Wyoming Community College, Room 1229E;

Sheridan -- Sheridan College, Room Griffith 13;

Torrington -- Eastern Wyoming College, Room Tebbet 252.
