Campus Construction Update for Jan. 27

January 25, 2013

These are among the construction activities scheduled Jan. 27-Feb. 2 at the University of Wyoming.

The UW Facilities Planning Office reports the following activities for the week:

Performing Arts Center (Fine Arts) -- A town hall-style meeting to inform the public of the construction activities for the planned Performing Arts Center project is set for Friday, Jan. 25, at 4 p.m. in the Fine Arts Main Stage theatre.

Enzi STEM Facility (Scheduled completion June 2015) -- Work will focus on installing sewer and water lines between 10th and 11th streets in Bradley and Lewis Streets. 11th Street will remain closed between Lewis and Bradley streets. Watch for detour signs in the area. Lewis Street between 11th and 12th is open to limited traffic serving Engineering, Geological Survey, Earth Sciences and the Energy Innovation Center.

Museum Open -- The UW Geological Museum is now open. It is open Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m.-3 p.m., and Tuesdays through Fridays from 10 a.m.- 4 p.m. Admission is free.

White Hall Renovations -- New installations continue on the sixth through 12th floors. Rough-in installations continue in the basement through fifth floor. Window replacement is complete on ninth through 12th floors and will continue down each floor. The new east entry foundation is continuing. Fencing is placed around the area. The west parking lot will be closed until summer 2013.

University of Wyoming/Casper College Student Union (UW/CC Student Union, scheduled completion November 2013) -- The primary building enclosure is complete, allowing interior construction activities to proceed on schedule. Framing of interior partitions and mechanical/electrical rough-in continue throughout the UW third- and fourth-floor spaces. Overall project construction is approximately 61 percent complete.

ESCo Project (Energy Services Company) -- Long Energy Services Co. employees will not be on site this week.

Energy Innovation Center (formerly ERC, at 1020 Lewis St.) -- Lewis Street remains closed during construction. School of Energy Resources and Enhanced Oil Recovery Institute personnel now occupy their third-floor offices. Access to main campus now includes the passage between Engineering and the new EIC along with access between or through Earth Sciences and the Berry Center. Access to the EIC north entrance will be on Lewis from the east along Lewis. Parking will be limited in areas around construction. Limited handicapped parking may be available south of the EIC and west of Engineering. Handicapped parking has been relocated to the northwest corner of Lewis and 10th streets, with access through the Berry Center or Earth Sciences Building to main campus.

Work on the third-floor lab and the second-floor conference rooms, along with 3-D visualization space, will be ongoing. The contractor has moved construction staging from the parking area north of Lewis. This will increase congestion and traffic on Lewis. Watch for UW trucks and equipment in addition to the contractors.

The UW Physical Plant reports the following activities for the week. Please direct questions to the service desk, 766-6225.

Snow Removal -- Physical Plant crews will remove snow as needed throughout the season. Watch for snow removal equipment, be careful and safe during snow events, and call the service desk at 766-6225 to report ice spots and problem areas.

Anthropology Building -- Due to a water leak within a wall on the first floor, cabinets have been removed and the wall opened for access. Please use caution in this area.

Geology Building -- Renovations to Classroom 216 have begun. Please use caution around crews and equipment in this area.

Engineering Building -- Painting in the restrooms has resumed. Signs will be posted in areas affected by painting operation.

History Building -- Painting operations will continue on the first floor and then move to the stairways. Please use caution around work areas.

Knight Hall -- Bathrooms within the building are being painted, and those closed during work will be identified with signs.

Physical Science Building -- Modifications to the liquid nitrogen tank on the north side of the building are ongoing. Please use caution in this area.

Beta House -- Construction is substantially complete and punch list items are being completed. Video classrooms 105 and 205 are in use. HVAC controls work is nearing completion.
