UW Idol Auditions Friday

January 30, 2013

Want to be the next Kelly Clarkson or David Archuleta?

Auditions to be the next University of Wyoming Idol are at 9 p.m. Friday, Feb. 1, in the Wyoming Union Ballroom. The UW Idol open-call audition is free and open to the public.

“The $1,000 first prize is a great incentive to let your voice be heard. I can’t wait to audition,” says Megan Sargent, a UW junior from Cheyenne.

All Idol participants must be UW students. The first 100 applicants to submit an application to the Campus Activities Center (CAC) by 5 p.m. Friday will be guaranteed an audition spot. CAC offices are located in the lower level of the Wyoming Union.

Check-in for the event will start at 8 p.m. Friday. Participants will be given a 30-second time slot to sing a song of their choice a cappella. During a short break, a panel of judges will tally scores of all auditioned participants. The top 15, as well as five alternates, will be chosen to move on to the semifinals Friday, Feb. 8.

UW Idol finals are scheduled Friday, Feb. 15. The finals event will feature a guest judge from the Puerto Rican-based a cappella group, Nota, that will perform on campus Friday Feb. 22.

UW Idol finals prizes are $1,000 for first place, $500 for second, $300 for third and $100 for the audience choice. Additionally, the first-place winner will have the chance to sing with Nota the following week during its campus performance.
