Nota, a six-man group from Puerto Rico, met in 1994 and started singing together occasionally. They blend salsa, jazz, bossa, pop, R&B, meringue and gospel.

Nota participated in the first season of “The Sing-Off,” a singing competition broadcast on NBC in which they competed against eight other vocal groups. Largely considered the underdog, they were voted by the public as the winners. They received a $100,000 recording contract with Sony Music Entertainment.

Nota performed the Puerto Rican national anthem in the opening ceremony of the 2010 Central American and Caribbean Games in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico. They also opened for Shakira on a few American dates of her “The Sun Comes Out World Tour” in 2010.

They have released two CDs, their debut “Nota” and “Nota's A Cappella Christmas.”

The UW Cultural Programs series features a variety of world-renowned performers. The Cultural Programs' spring series also will feature pianist Stephen Hough (Feb. 28); the Aquila Theatre performance of “Cyrano de Bergerac” (March 7); and violinist Ray Chen (April 9).
