The University of Wyoming Department of Music Faculty Recital Series will host a performance by guest artists Excelsior! Trio Sunday, Feb. 10, at 3 p.m. in the Fine Arts concert hall. The recital is free and open to the public.

Individual instrumental master classes on flute, saxophone, and piano will take place immediately after, beginning at 4:30 p.m.

The recital program features classical and jazz music, plus an original trio written for the group by saxophonist Russ Peterson. The master classes that follow will feature UW music department students performing for each guest artist.

Although Excelsior! Trio was officially formed in 2009, members Deb Harris (flute), Russ Peterson (saxophones) and Jay Hershberger (piano), all music faculty at Concordia College in Moorhead, Minn., have performed together since 2001.

“They discovered a deep sympatico for each other's musical styles, technique and artistic personalities, and decided to form a professional trio, especially encouraged by fellow professionals from around the country,” says UW faculty member Nicole Riner.

From Los Angeles and Cleveland, to Minneapolis and Athens, Ga., audiences have enthusiastically responded to the group’s high-energy music. As part of the Eminent Artist Series, their guest residency is sponsored by the UW Music Department.
