Happy Valentine’s Day, Laramie Seniors

University of Wyoming Upward Bound and Upward Bound Math/Science high school students will deliver 160 handmade Valentine’s Day cards to Laramie seniors this year.
The cards include “Heart Healthy” suggestions, quotations and personal messages. The students will present the cards to the Laramie Care Center, Spring Wind Assisted Living and the Ivinson Home for Ladies.
This is the third year for the “Healthy Hearts for Seniors” program.
“The program promotes community service activities among Upward Bound participants and increases intergenerational awareness and interaction,” says Jessica Rasmussen, Upward Bound Math/Science coordinator in the UW office of Student Educational Opportunity.
The Upward Bound and Upward Bound Math/Science programs provide college preparation and access services and activities to limited-income/first generation students and their families. This includes assistance in choosing a college, academic tutoring, financial literacy programs, career counseling, assistance applying to college, workplace and college visits, assistance applying for financial aid, and targeted instruction in reading, writing, mathematics and study skills.
