Campus Construction Update for March 31

March 29, 2013

These are among the construction activities scheduled March 31-April 6 at the University of Wyoming.

The UW Facilities Planning Office reports the following activities for the week:

Marian H. Rochelle Gateway Center (22nd and Grand, completion fall 2014) -- The construction fence will be installed around the site at 22nd and Grand Avenue and the southeast portion of the War Memorial Stadium parking lot. Construction trailers will be installed, and the abatement work will begin.

Performing Arts Center (Fine Arts Building, renovation and expansion) -- The parking lot on the east side of the UW Performing Arts Center is closed. It is being used for construction staging and will be converted into a green area following construction. Building visitors should use the lot on the north side of the building. Those entering the Performing Arts Center must now enter through the doors on the west side of the building. This will be the entrance for all building operations, including classes, ticket purchases and performances.

Enzi STEM Facility (Lewis Street between 10th and 11th streets, scheduled completion June 2015) -- Limited activity is scheduled. The contractor is waiting for the ground to thaw before excavating and removing foundations on the west side.

College of Education Annex Canopy and Connection (North of Education Building and east of Education Annex; scheduled completion August 2013) -- Preconstruction tasks for the project are under way. Access to and through the project site will remain unaffected through approximately March 31. Construction activities will start on or around March 31, at which time site construction and the staging area will be defined by signs. This may limit vehicular access and parking availability in the lot north of the Education Building throughout construction. During construction, pedestrian access to the north entrance of the Education Building and the east entrance of the Education Annex will be maintained; however, ongoing construction activities will require access to be limited to designated pathways. Pedestrians and motorists should exercise caution in the area.

Education Annex – Literacy Research Center and Clinic (Lower floor, Education Annex; scheduled completion January 2014) -- The lower (first) floor of the Education Annex is closed for construction. Asbestos abatement has commenced and is scheduled to be completed by April 5. Vehicular and pedestrian access on the west side of the Education Annex may be limited during abatement. Limited and sporadic pre-construction activity at the project site may occur before the start of renovation construction in mid-May.

White Hall Renovations -- New installations continue on the fourth through 10th floors. Rough-in installations continue in the basement through third floor. Window replacement is complete on the third through 12th floors, and will continue down two more floors. Punch-list work has begun on the 11th and 12th floors. The new east entry concrete slab pour will begin this week, followed by metal framing. Fencing is placed around the area. The west parking lot will be closed until late summer.

Energy Innovation Center (formerly ERC, at 1020 Lewis St.) -- Lewis Street remains closed during construction. The School of Energy Resources and Enhanced Oil Recovery Institute are now located in the EIC. First- and second-floor labs are being occupied. Access to main campus now includes the passage between Engineering and the new EIC, along with access between Earth Sciences and the Berry Center. Access to the EIC north entrance will be on Lewis from the east along Lewis. Parking will be limited in areas around construction. Work on the third-floor lab and 3-D visualization space will be ongoing. Congestion and traffic on Lewis continues. Watch for UW and contractors’ trucks and equipment.

University of Wyoming/Casper College Student Union (UW/CC Student Union, scheduled completion November 2013) -- The primary building enclosure is complete, allowing interior construction activities to proceed on or ahead of schedule. Rough-in construction is generally complete throughout UW/CC third- and fourth-floor spaces, and preliminary finish construction has started. Overall project construction is approximately 70 percent complete.

ESCo Project (Energy Services Company) -- Long Energy Services Co. employees and contractors will work on lighting retrofits at the Centennial Complex second floors. This will have some impact on occupants. Workers will wear identifying badges.

The UW Physical Plant reports the following activities for the week. Please direct questions to the service desk, 766-6225.

Snow Removal -- Physical Plant crews will remove snow as needed throughout the season. Watch for snow removal equipment, be careful and safe during snow events, and call the service desk at 766-6225 to report ice spots and problem areas.

Ross Hall Cafe -- Ross Hall Cafe renovations are ongoing. The facility will be closed through the summer and is scheduled to reopen for the fall semester. The contractor staging and parking area will be on the north side of the building. Please use caution in the area.

McWhinnie Hall -- Steam service and domestic water service will be shut down Monday, April 1, from 6-10 a.m. for renovation work in Room 216. Building contacts have been notified.
