University of Wyoming agroecology student Tyler Harran was one of 30 university students nationwide who attended the recent U.S. Department of Agriculture Agricultural Outlook Forum Student Diversity Program in Arlington, Va.

"I feel very privileged to have been selected," Harran says. "Of the 30 nationwide, it was an honor to be invited as the only agroecology major and to represent the University of Wyoming.”

Harran, a junior from Jamestown, N.C., is an agricultural ambassador for the UW College of Agriculture and Natural Resources.

"My key takeaway from the event is that food equals security," Harran says. "In this regard, it is a national priority to preserve and maintain our food production systems. Those without food and water are generally discontent and unsettled."

Harran is scheduled to receive his undergraduate degree in agroecology in 2014.
