Weeds and range management expertise have garnered honors for a University of Wyoming professor and UW Extension range specialist -- a couple in the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources.

Brian and Rachel Mealor received Outstanding Young Range Professional Awards at the recent 2013 Society for Range Management Honor and Student Awards Ceremony in Oklahoma City, Okla.

Brian Mealor, from Gainesville, Ga., is in the Department of Plant Sciences and is the extension weed specialist.

“It was an honor to be recognized by SRM and to be included with all the other award winners, past and present,” he says.

Rachel Mealor, from Rock Springs, is in the Department of Ecosystem Science and Management.

“It was such an honor to be given this award and recognized at the SRM meeting,” she says. “When looking at other individuals who have been given the award, it is humbling to be a part of that group.”

The Mealors organize and run the SRM Rangeland Cup competition, a team problem-solving competition for undergraduate and graduate students at the SRM international meeting.
