The University of Wyoming Department of Music spring Faculty Recital Series features “Middle Ground” at 3 p.m. Sunday, March 10, in the Fine Arts concert hall. The program is free and open to the public.

Blake McGee, clarinet; Jim Pryzgocki, viola; Chi-Chen, piano; and the Summit Chamber players will perform. The concert will feature several romantic pieces for clarinet and viola; two pieces of Bruch’s “Eight Pieces” for clarinet, viola, and piano; and Brahms’ “Quintet for Clarinet and Strings.”

“The first work showcases how the combined timbres of the clarinet and viola work together in counterpoint with the piano to create an engaging and expressive effect,” says Nicole Riner, a UW Department of Music faculty member. “The Brahms is a massive and important piece from the 19th century chamber music repertoire (and is) filled with poignant harmonic elements and extreme lyricism.”

Caitlyn Valovick Moore will be the next Faculty Recital Series peformer Monday, March 25, at 7:30 p.m. in the Fine Arts concert hall.
