March 7, 2013 — Six awards of $3,000 each will be made to University of Wyoming students, at all academic levels, for summer projects in research or creative endeavors that involve a substantial ethics component.
The application deadline for the Willits Ethics Awards is noon Monday, April 8. Awards recipients will be announced April 22. The research can be conducted individually or collaboratively, and sponsored and supervised by a faculty member.
The Willits Ethics Awards encourage and assist students, in any UW discipline, who are considering, beginning or in the midst of a research or creative activity that includes a substantial ethics component, says Ed Sherline, associate professor in the UW Department of Philosophy. He says preference will be given to projects that are: more concentrated on ethics; the ethics component can be completed in one summer; and is the student’s own project rather than a segment of faculty research.
