UW Board of Trustees Will Meet May 9

An update on the University of Wyoming’s 6 percent budget reduction, plans for a major upgrade of the College of Engineering and Applied Science, and action on several planned construction projects are on the agenda for the UW Board of Trustees Thursday and Friday, May 9-10.

The meeting begins at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in Room 506 of Coe Library. All meetings are open to the public except for executive sessions.

The business meeting, in which trustees take formal action on agenda items, is scheduled for 2:15 p.m. Friday, also in Room 506 of Coe Library. Public testimony will be accepted at 10:30 a.m. Friday.

As a result of a 6 percent reduction in state funding, UW is preparing to reduce its annual budget by $11.8 million for the fiscal year that begins July 1. The board is scheduled to hear an update on that process at 11:30 a.m. Thursday.

Trustees will hear a presentation on a report forwarded by UW to the Governor’s Energy, Engineering, STEM Integration Task Force at 1:30 p.m. Friday. The report calls for a major upgrade of UW’s College of Engineering and Applied Science.

At 2 p.m. Thursday, the board is scheduled to select a construction manager for a major remodeling of the UW Arena-Auditorium. Action also is expected on construction contracts for the UW Literary Research Center and Clinic, replacement of the American Heritage Center roof, and a general warehouse/storage facility.

At 11:30 a.m. Friday, trustees will take part in the groundbreaking ceremony for the Performing Arts Center, which involves remodeling and expansion of the current Fine Arts building.

Trustees also are scheduled to:

-- Hear an update on research and economic development at 2:30 p.m. Thursday.

-- Receive an update on campus safety and security at 9:30 a.m. Friday.

-- And participate in various commencement ceremonies Friday and Saturday.
