UW Board Approves Contract for Incoming President

June 11, 2013

The University of Wyoming Board of Trustees has approved a contract with incoming President Robert Sternberg.

Trustees voted unanimously today (Tuesday) in favor of the three-year contract, completing a process that began with their Feb. 26 selection of Sternberg as UW’s 24th president.

He will take the reins of UW July 1, succeeding retiring President Tom Buchanan, whose last day of work is June 28.

Under the terms of the contract approved today, Sternberg will receive an annual base salary of $425,000, as previously announced. The contract also calls for UW to contribute to a deferred compensation plan, and to provide a housing allowance and a vehicle.

“We’re delighted to have finalized our agreement with Dr. Sternberg and are excited for UW’s new era to begin -- even as we prepare to bid farewell to President Buchanan and salute him for his outstanding leadership of the university,” Board of Trustees President Dave Bostrom says.

Sternberg comes to UW from Oklahoma State University, where he has served as provost and senior vice president since 2010. An accomplished psychologist and scholar, he will have a dual appointment as a tenured full professor in UW’s Department of Psychology in the College of Arts and Sciences, and the Department of Professional Studies in the College of Education.
