Cultural Programs starts its fall season with solo mandolinist Chris Thile at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 4, at the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts.

Grammy award-winning mandolin soloist Chris Thile opens the University of Wyoming Cultural Programs fall concert series at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 4, at the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts concert hall.

Tickets cost $30 for the public and $25 for UW students. For tickets and information, call (307) 766-6666 or visit the Wyoming Union or Performing Arts Center box offices.

Thile has won two Grammy awards for his collaboration with Yo-Yo Ma, Edgar Meyer and Stuart Duncan. He also received the MacArthur Foundation “Genius” award.

“You probably know Thile as the heart and soul of Nickel Creek, and then of Punch Brothers, but you’re going to participate in something special,” says UW Cultural Programs Director Cedric Reverand. “This season, and this season only, he’s touring as a soloist, playing everything from Bach and Mozart transcriptions, to bluegrass, in conjunction with the release of a solo album on Nonesuch.”
