Roll Call Event at UW to Honor Fallen Soldiers of War on Terror

October 24, 2013

The Veterans Services Center (VSC) will host its annual roll call event at the University of Wyoming to honor the service members who have given their lives since Sept. 11, 2001, as a result of the war on terror. The event is scheduled Monday, Nov. 11, at 8 a.m. in Simpson Plaza.

UW will join campuses from across the country in reading the names of the fallen soldiers on Veterans Day.

“Each year, more and more of our brothers and sisters fall in battle, and we honor them by reading their names during our national roll call event,” says Marty Martinez, UW VSC project coordinator.

The VSC will need 35-50 volunteers to read a block of names. Each time block is expected to last approximately 15 minutes. A particular time block may be requested, and anyone is welcome to read during multiple time blocks.

Name readings will continue through the day until the last name has been read. There will be a moment of silence at noon.

To volunteer, email the following information to uw-vets@uwyo.edu: name, department, phone, email and a preferred time to read. If there is no time preference, one will be assigned.

For more information about the event, call the UW Veterans Services Center at (307) 766-6908 or email uw-vets@uwyo.edu.
