Colorado Chamber Orchestra and UW Brass Quintet to Perform UW Composers Music

November 13, 2013

Colorado Chamber Orchestra (CCO) and the University of Wyoming Brass Quintet will perform music by five UW composers at 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 16, in the Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts. The event is free and open to the public.

The composers are Julian Saporiti, a graduate student in American Studies and well-known songwriter; George Schrader, a marching band arranger and graduate student in music; Kyle Duffee, a chemistry major and music minor passionate about composing; Stephanie Matsunaga, a music performance major; and Evan Bradley, a percussionist and music education major.

“New, younger audiences will find the CCO a welcome alternative to stuffy or pretentious concerts. The most discerning classical music connoisseur will appreciate the level of discipline and refined music making,” says Thomas Blomster, CCO director. “Over time, we believe we will reach many people who otherwise would not experience the beauty of this unique art form.”

The works to be featured will include songs for tenor and strings with text by Saporiti and Oscar Wilde, a string quartet with a bike-crash narrative, a set of virtuosic solo cello essays, a three-movement brass quintet with a bold opening fanfare, and more.
