American Indian Scholarships Available at UW
Three scholarships are available at the University of Wyoming for American Indian students for the 2014-15 academic year.
The UW American Indian Studies (AIS) Scholarship committee is accepting applications for the Frank and Cynthia McCarthy Scholarship, the Robert W. Winner Memorial Scholarship and the John and Ada Thorpe Scholarship. Deadline to apply is Friday, Feb. 14, 2014.
The scholarship committee awards several scholarships in varying amounts depending on availability of funds and the quality of applications. Awards are based on scholastic ability and achievement; demonstrated leadership; participation in extracurricular activities; letters of recommendation; and the applicant’s potential to contribute to the American Indian community after graduation.
Applicants must be full-time students at UW -- 12 or more credit hours for undergraduate students and nine or more credit hours for graduate students. Incoming and continuing students may apply. Applicants must be American Indian and provide proof of tribal enrollment on the scholarship application.
Scholarship recipients also must maintain a 2.0 GPA; meet regularly with AIS faculty members; and participate in UW’s Multicultural Affairs Excellence Series or provide 10 hours of service to the American Indian Studies Program each semester a scholarship is received. Students are required to attend a recognition dinner in Laramie in May.
