Power Outage Update

December 6, 2013

Even though power hasn’t yet been restored to the east end of the University of Wyoming campus, the Washakie Dining Center will serve lunch to UW students with meal plans.

UW officials say sandwiches and other items will be served during the regular lunch hours, even though the full lineup of meal options isn’t available due to the outage.

Rocky Mountain Power now estimates it could be 12:30 p.m. until power returns to most UW buildings between 15th and 30th streets, following an accident involving a dump truck and a power pole early this morning.  The intersection at 19th Street and Willett Drive may be closed for a longer period. Campus buildings west of 15th Street still have power, and classes and other university activities -- including fall commencement ceremonies -- are proceeding as scheduled.

Among the buildings affected are the residence halls, Washakie Dining Center, university apartments between 22nd and 30th streets, and fraternity and sorority houses. Other parts of Laramie also were affected.

UW Information Technology reports that some campus phone systems have been disrupted due to this morning’s power outage. Calls between VoIP (Voice over IP) phones and Nortel phones and between VoIP phones and off-campus phones are affected. IT is working to correct the problem. For updates on campus phone service, visit http://it.uwyo.edu/home/incident.asp?Incident=690

A dump truck unloading snow knocked down a power pole and power lines, causing the outage. Rocky Mountain Power crews are on the scene.
