Country music star Craig Morgan headlines the University of Wyoming football season opening weekend with the Cowboy Kickoff Concert and Pep Rally Friday, Aug. 29 -- the night before the first Cowboys game.

The Cowboy Kickoff begins at 7 p.m. at Tailgate Park, located on the corner of 20th Street and Grand Avenue. The event, featuring Morgan, UW coaches, cheerleaders and giveaways is open to the public.

Tickets cost $25 in advance for adults or $35 at the gate the day of the show; students with IDs $10 in advance, $15 the day of the show; and children under 12 pay just $8. Advance tickets are available online at www.uwyo.edu/finearts or at the Wyoming Union information desk.

The Pokes host the University of Montana Grizzlies in War Memorial Stadium at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 30.

“This is the first time the UW football season has opened with a major entertainment event,” says William Evans, UW Residence Life and Dining Services associate director. “We are excited to offer this concert to welcome back the students for the academic year and get the UW and surrounding communities ready for Cowboy sports.”

Morgan’s hits include “That’s What I Love About Sunday,” “Redneck Yacht Club,” “Bonfire” and “Wake up Lovin’ You.” UW coaches will be on hand for the pep rally between concert acts, along with the UW spirit squad and Pistol Pete.

Evans encourages participants to bring small folding chairs or blankets for seating. No outside food or beverages will be permitted, but concessions will be available on site.

Townsquare Media (KOWB and KCGY radio in Laramie) cooperates with UW to produce the event.

“We are thrilled to have a partnership with Townsquare Media’s Y95 Country that enables us to coordinate an event of this size for the country music and sports fans in our area,” Evans says. “We look forward to making this a tradition for years to come.”
